I Love Science.
Always have. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated by the why of things—why the world works the way it does, what things are made of, or how the universe holds itself together.
Science is our best tool for answering those questions. It’s amazing because it works. No other system in human history has brought us closer to understanding the world than science. It’s given us communication, transportation, entertainment, medicine, agriculture, and so much more.
When I was about 25, I was having dinner with a friend and excitedly explaining an article I had read—something about black holes, quasars, or some other weird space stuff. I don’t remember the topic exactly, but I do remember how into it I got. My friend said, “You should be a teacher—you get so excited about this stuff.”
I laughed. I’d never thought of teaching until that moment. But it stuck with me. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how right she was.
Not long after, I went back to school to become a teacher—because I wanted to share my passion for science (and history!) with as many students as possible.
Some Fun Facts About Me:
Yes, I’m a nerd—and proudly so. I love D&D, video games, board games, card games, and I’m a very serious Magic: The Gathering player and collector.
I love reading—mostly sci-fi, fantasy, history, and science books.
I don’t drink coffee or tea (gasp), but I do love chocolate and toffee.
I’m also an athlete: I play basketball and softball, swim and bike regularly, and try to stay active and fit.
My all-time favorite TV show is Star Trek: The Next Generation. Captain Jean-Luc Picard has honestly been a huge influence on how I see the world.
Favorite movie? No Country for Old Men.
Favorite bands include Beirut, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, The Shins, Flaming Lips, Gorillaz, The Decemberists, and many more.
If you ever have a question for me—about science, class, or life—don’t hesitate to ask. Oh, and if you think you can beat me 1v1 in basketball… good luck. I love embarrassing students on the court. 😎
Memories
“Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. But I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment because they’ll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we’ve lived. After all...we’re only mortal.”
